and men who support them in their work. The organization was established
in 1987. "We are excited about this alliance and see the immediate
benefits to our members. This partnership will provide many career
opportunities for our members -- a diverse group representing print,
broadcast, new media, radio, public relations and academia, said
Roxanna Pellin-Scott, president of AWSM. Our membership represents
a unique segment of the sports community. A collaboration with Women's
Sports Services can help us increase the number of women in successful
media careers."
Through the
partnership, members of the Association for Women in Sports Media

including job listings, resume support, career development seminars
and networking events. In addition, WSS’s employer partners
will be provided a diverse and talented pool of female sports media

are seeing a growing interest from women seeking sports media related
careers such as broadcasting, production and journalism. Many of
the women we work with will benefit from knowing about AWSM, and
AWSM will benefit with the addition of new members. Partnering together
to provide career support for their members will ensure that women
with an interest in sports media will have every possible chance

Overview
of AWSM
Although the presence of women in sports journalism isn't as unique
as it was in the 1970s, women still must deal with many of the same
roadblocks that Melissa Ludtke did as a reporter for Sports Illustrated
in 1977 when Major League Baseball excluded women from interviewing
players in the locker rooms. AWSM seeks hurdles to these roadblocks
with a unified voice that ultimately will help women become more
effective in their careers. AWSM hosts an annual convention, job
announcements, scholarships and additional member benefits. For
